Croke Park National Sports Stadium

Client: GAA

Capacity: ca. 82,300

Croke Park has been transformed into a state of the art sporting venue and was the focus for the 2003 Special Olympics World Summer Games, holding the opening and closing ceremonies.

The redevelopment began in 2001 to transform Croke Park into an 82,300 seat venue with conference and exhibition spaces.

For this modern stadium, analytical modelling of egress of large crowds maximised public safety and optimised the requirements for emergency egress routes.

MSA’s specialist fire evacuation and training team also developed emergency evacuation management strategies and provided evacuation training for staff to enable these strategies be implemented correctly.  Read more of Building Fire Safety Management.

These Emergency management plans and the development of fire engineering egress for the different events increased the stadium’s occupant levels compared to a code compliant design.
